A nearly head-on crash involving two school buses sent 10 people to the hospital, some with severe injuries, according to the Greenwich Police.
The crash took place around 3:09 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, at 1252 King St., between two school buses, one from Royal Coach Line school bus with just a driver, and a private bus operated by Countywide Transportation of Yonkers, which was carrying nine people, Greenwich Police Lt. John Slusarz.
The Countywide bus was carrying seven special needs adults from a school program in Port Chester. There was also a driver and a monitor aboard, according to police.
All 10 victims were taken to Stamford Hospital with serious injuries including head trauma, broken bones, and contusions, said Greenwich Sgt. Jeff Moran.
Slusarz said none of the injuries appeared life-threatening.
A preliminary investigation has determined that one bus was traveling northbound and one was traveling southbound when they collided, nearly head-on, police said.
Several people stopped to help the injured while Police, Fire, and EMS were responding to the scene.
Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact Sgt. Patrick Smyth of the Departments Traffic Section at 203-622-8015.
